Neighbourhood Watch Network are committed, as part of the new three year strategy, to be more evidence based and to be able to measure the impact of Neighbourhood Watch within communities. To achieve this last year NWN applied to the Home Office for some additional funding to commission research into the make up of Neighbourhood Watch within England and Wales and to develop a measurement process for our impact. NWN commissioned UCL in London to develop a measurement tool which is underway and Nottingham Trent University to use the data from the Crime Survey of England and Wales to analyse the make up and potential areas of development for Neighbourhood Watch, which is nearing completion. We are working with both universities with members and will publish the results when completed.

The concept of a bespoke scheme to promote safety and wellbeing to students was proposed by Lianne Taylor (at the time employed by NWN, currently a trustee for NottsWatch) early 2018. Stakeholder meetings were organised and planning commenced. Late 2018, Farrah Khan, Student Development officer with Nottingham City Council invited NottsWatch to be involved in a new Student Ambassador scheme which has similar aims but offers accreditation to the students involved. NTU have included NottsWatch in their 2019-20 portfolio for Service Learning. Potential projects discussed between NTU and NottsWatch are:

• To increase the number and diversity of organisations who are linked to NW and receive neighbourhood alerts.
• To do desk research to understand who is involved with Neighbourhood Watch (nationally and locally) and why and how NW can attract more diverse volunteers. To provide practical recommendations for achieving a more diverse volunteer base. 
• To scope out the feasibility for a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style event where organisations in Nottingham pitch for a small pot of funding to undertake a community safety/crime prevention initiative. NTU SPoC is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
• To develop NW’s YouTube account.
