Historically, Nottingham City Council financially supported The City of Nottingham Neighbourhood Watch Council (CNNWC) prior to Nottinghamshire Neighbourhood Watch and CNNWC formally amalgamating at their inaugural AGM on 22nd February 2014, taking charitable status. The name of Nottinghamshire Neighbourhood Watch was retained and its more familiar abbreviated name, NottsWatch, received trade mark registration on 2 April 2015.

NW Contact at NT: Paul Smithurst, Community Cohesion Development Officer, has supported NottsWatch practically since our February 2018 board meeting. Paul joined Paul Macey and Lianne Taylor to form a subcommittee to specifically review how NW could engage with areas of the city uninterested and unsupported by traditional neighbourhood watch schemes. Their work complemented that of our sole remaining trustee from CNNWC, David Poole, who retired at our last AGM.
Unfortunately, the Nottingham Together project finally ceased 31 December 2019, after many months of uncertainty so, ultimately, the Dragon's Den style project we hoped to collaborate on did not come to fruition. However, Nottingham Trent Universtity Criminology students have taken this on as a Service learning project. Refer to the Universities page and blog for updates.

Trading Standards works to protect the public from unfair and unsafe trading practices. They do this by:
- Investigating complaints about unfair and unsafe trading practice
- Responding immediately to any incident where a rogue trader is at a property, still in the area or is expected to return.
- Investigating any Rogue Trader incidents reported to them involving a Nottingham City resident
- Always prioritising residents’ safety and wishes in any actions they take.
- Giving advice and support to all affected by a rogue trader
- Inspecting businesses to make sure they are in line with the law and understand their responsibilities
- Giving advice and information to businesses to help them comply with the law
Members of the public are being encouraged to become Friends Against Scams by completing the free online training and raising awareness of scams. Prevention is better than cure.
Scam Marshal
TS are looking for volunteers to register as Scam Marshals for the National Trading Standards team. Anyone who has been targeted by a scam can sign up to the scheme and help National TS team fight back and take a stand against scams.

Student Ambassador/Student Watch Scheme

You need JavaScript enabled to view it., Student Development officer with the Neighbourhood Management Team, Central North, Nottingham City Council, is taking the lead with a new collaborative project involving NottsWatch, Notts Police and both Nottingham Universities and their Student Unions.
The scheme aims to link student volunteers with Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire Police to carry out activities to support Crime Prevention, Community Safety, Student Wellbeing and Environmental Campaigns to keep Nottingham a great place to live, work, study and play.
The scheme will be accredited by both universities as an incentive for those volunteering as Student Ambassadors.
A NottsWatch presentation was delivered at the December training session to new volunteers.
Selective Licensing Team

A new licensing scheme, which aims to improve homes and raise standards across Nottingham’s private rented sector, came into force in many areas of the city on 1 August 2018.
The scheme is called Selective Licensing and landlords or agents of a private rented properties in the city may need to apply for a licence. Failure to apply for a licence can lead to financial penalties of up to £30,000 or prosecution through the courts.

Heritage and Urban Design
NottsWatch Contact at H&UD: Laura Alvarez, Senior Principal Urban Design and Conservation Officer at Nottingham City Council.
Nottingham City Council are leading the way in enabling community to contribute to developing a Design Quality Framework. Laura was one of the contributors to the first event, on 20 November 2018, to launch this inclusive process to allow community members to contribute to the future design of their communities.
This was the first of several consultations from which community can contribute to the Design Quality Framework (DQF). For more information view her report.
