Trent University Students supporting NottsWatch
Since becoming Chair of NottsWatch in May 2018 I have explored different ways of working with students. Some have, individually, applied to join us for specific roles. We had discussions with both of our universities about student involvement with Tech & Tea. This year University of Nottingham have added NottsWatch to their Ongoing Projects page from Volunteering Opportunities. But the progress we have made with Nottingham Trent University is likely to be more beneficial as they have added our charity to their 2019-20 portfolio for Service Learning.

How 'Happy to Chat' benches are tackling loneliness
The BBC recently reported how Happy to Chat benches are tackling loneliness: A simple dog walk has led to a craze that is sweeping the UK and as far afield as Australia and North America. Allison Owen-Jones, 53, watched as an elderly man sat alone on a park bench.
"All of a sudden, people are not invisible anymore," she said and explained for 40 minutes an elderly man sat on a bench in a busy city centre park - alone.

Group chat for girls to walk home safely through Lenton
A second year student at the University of Nottingham has created a group chat called WomenWalkingHome to try and ensure girls' safety walking through Lenton.
Flo Fowler, a French and Hispanic studies student, created a Facebook group chat called “WomenWalkingHome”, which provides girls someone to ring if their friends or housemates are unavailable late at night, helping to discourage any perpetrators who would intend to cause them harm.

Biodiversity in The Park Project
Mike Horseman, from The Park, has started a project in his local community to create more biodiversity by raising funds for bird boxes and bat boxes as well as creating a hedgehog super highway.
Mike wrote to his neighbours to explain his project and ask for their support saying,
"I am pleased to advise you that the NPRA have kindly offered to provide £200 in funding towards a number of bird boxes and bat boxes in order to encourage and support The Park’s Biodiversity Project; especially aimed at those species which are clearly struggling to maintain their foothold in The Park Estate and are in general decline.

2019 National Pubwatch Award Winners – Nottingham City
The Nottingham City Pubwatch scheme, has been awarded the annual National Pubwatch Award for its positive approach to partnership working and its efforts to promote safety in the night time economy.
Representatives from the Nottingham City scheme, together with other finalists, attended a prestigious House of Lords awards dinner last night, where they were presented with the winner’s trophy.
This year the awards event was sponsored by JD Wetherspoon.
Now in its eighth year, the National Pubwatch Awards champion the work of local Pubwatch schemes and their efforts to provide safe drinking environments for customers and staff in licensed premises across the UK.

Event for young and seniors/retired people - 6th November
This is an event at the Nottingham Trent University to bring older and younger people together in conversation, as part of Parliament Week. The format will be mostly small group conversations with older and young people mixed together.

NottsWatch Review Meeting
The NottsWatch Trustees plus Comms and Community Teams meet quarterly to review our current projects and check that we are on course to meet our targeted outcomes, agreed with the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner. Additionally, we review our performance using our national team’s Neighbourhood Watch Area Association Self-Assessment Tool.
