At our AGM last November, I announced my decision to retire from NottsWatch after six years of extremely busy roles (initially Secretary followed by Chair). I gave notice until the end of the financial year so that I could fulfil my obligations to NottsWatch – essentially our projects agreed with the office of the Police & Crime Commissioner (19-20 funding) and Nottingham Trent University (Service Learning). Our April 3rd Quarter 4 meeting will be my final NottsWatch meeting.
When I first joined back in early 2014, NottsWatch boasted a committee of around 16 county members. We later amalgamated with the city team. Over the years we have sadly lost several members but have also benefitted from new ones, including many younger volunteers. We are, again, lacking in numbers so this is an appeal to anyone who:
- has a heart for their community
- is reliable
- has some spare time to volunteer

Why Now?
This is an exciting time to join NottsWatch – after several years of struggling to align with neighbourhood policing, we are now being supported by the Head of local policing plus Notts Police’s Burglary Lead. Also, as our numbers have diminished you will not just be one more person around a table at meetings. Your input will be valuable. Sadly, if we are unable to attract more volunteers, NottsWatch may no longer exist to support the many neighbourhood watch schemes throughout the city and county of Nottinghamshire.

What would I do?
It really depends on your commitment and your skills set. Our roles fall into two areas:
Community Team – usually, but not necessarily, someone already involved with neighbourhood watch. See an outline of the roles that you could take on at https://www.nottswatch.co.uk/volunteer-homepage/what-would-i-do/community-team
Comms Team – if you have a good standard of English and can write, without bias, on matters that concern or interest people within a community, we need you to contribute to our blog.
